Hi I'm your Local Host Matthew
My proudest achievement isn’t anything flashy; it’s that after four years, I still care about every single stay. There’s a point in hosting where it can become routine: clean, reset, repeat. But I’ve managed to avoid that by focusing on the human side of it. You get this constant rotation of people at different moments in their lives; some are on holiday, some are relocating, some are going through tough stuff, and just need a calm place to land. You rarely get the full story, but you get enough to know that the space matters. What I've found is that guests don't remember perfection. They remember when things were easy: a smooth check-in, a comfortable bed, someone who responded quickly. That's what I focus on.

My local picks
A few of my favourite spots near the properties.

Attica and Chin Chin
One of Australia's most celebrated restaurants, Attica in Ripponlea is a long-table experience built around native Australian ingredients. Book well ahead; it fills up fast and for good reason. Chin Chin on Flinders Lane is also one of Melbourne's busiest restaurants for good reason; the South-East Asian menu is built for sharing, and the atmosphere matches it. No reservations, so arrive early or be prepared to wait at the bar with a drink.

GoGo Bar
After dining at Chin Chin, head downstairs to GoGo Bar for cocktails and dessert. This spot perfectly encapsulates Melbourne’s energy; buzzing, a bit hidden, and fun!

Laneways, the Yarra and Federation Square
Do an early morning wander through Hosier Lane and the surrounding laneways, then walk across to Federation Square and along the Yarra. It’s the essence of Melbourne: street art, coffee culture, and that mix of old and modern all in one stretch, and this combo gives a world-class food, a proper taste of the Melbourne nightlife, and the city’s signature atmosphere all in a tight, unforgettable loop.
