Two years on, a Mornington Peninsula holiday home that keeps getting better

The owners couldn't get to their holiday home to update it, so their Local Host did it for them. See how the restyle lifted rates and landed a two-month booking.

About the Homeowner

Two years ago, this Mornington Peninsula holiday house sat empty most of the year. The owners now use it in January and let guests enjoy it the rest of the time. What started as a way to earn from an idle house has turned into a working relationship the owners plan to keep, built around one Local Host they trust.

The goal: To keep the house earning through the year, in good shape, without needing to be there.

The Challenge

By year two, the house had started to show its age against newer listings, and a few guest reviews said as much. The owners live too far away to do much about it.

They faced:

  • A dated interior holding back reviews and rates
  • Quiet winter months and a wish to lift earnings without pricing out guests
  • No easy way to manage a refresh from a distance
  • Ongoing repairs and upkeep to organise

How Hometime helped

Before and after the restyle: leather couches replaced with grey ones, plus a new rug and wall art.

Before and after the restyle: leather couches replaced with grey ones, plus a new rug and wall art.

Glenn suggested a refresh, and the owners backed his judgement. They dropped off a new couch and some prints on their way through, and left the rest to him. He sourced fabric for new blinds and hung them, cleared out the old furniture, added a rug and styled the whole place.

With Glenn as their Local Host, they get:

  • Advice on what to change: Clear recommendations on the updates likely to shift reviews and rates
  • The work handled on the ground: Sourcing, styling and setup, with no need for the owners to be there
  • Repairs sorted: A new oven organised as soon as the old one stopped working
  • One person to ask: A message or call to Glenn, and a fast response

The Results

A house they didn't recognise: The owners turned up expecting their own furniture and found a different home.
A two-month booking: One long stay secured since the restyle, with peak season still ahead.
A relationship worth keeping: Two years in, the owners aren't going anywhere.

Glenn has been amazing, and when they tried to move Glenn off us, I said I would move too. Glenn is the reason we are with Hometime… I don't have to worry about anything, because I know I can just message him, call him, and he responds immediately... When I saw the photos, I couldn't believe it… And when we went there, I saw it, and I'm like, well, he's got a flair for this. He’s very good with styling…"
